Kindergartners OK after power line falls on bus
Thanks to a "textbook response" from bus driver Barbara Nerge, seven pupils in Hilltop Elementary School's all-day kindergarten program are safe, according to Elgin police Lt. Glenn Theriault. The bus was headed down Grand Avenue on the city's east side near Lords Park on Tuesday afternoon when a strong gust of wind knocked down a tree branch, which downed a wire that then landed across the hood of the bus, trapping the driver and children inside for about 40 minutes.

Peterson attorneys: Drop gun charge

DuPage board OKs $70 million in bonds

More West Nile mosquitoes found in Kane
Mosquitoes collected in traps in Carpentersville, Montgomery and at Fermilab near Batavia have tested positive for the West Nile virus, bringing the total number of positive batches to 13 this year, the Kane County Health Department announced Tuesday.

Police Report: Elgin man charged with eluding cops
Marcus M. Toledo, 27, of the 600 block of Preston Street, Elgin, was charged with aggravated attempting to elude police, two counts of domestic battery and no valid driver's license after an incident Monday. According to police, Toledo ignored at least two traffic control devices after police told him to stop.

Geneva couple plan Reptile Rescue effort
Alice and Ron Marine rescued Rhonda a year ago from an owner no longer interested in having the tortoise after Rhonda had grown too large for her living space. The couple have grown so fond of Rhonda that they have decided to establish a Reptile Rescue on a farmette they own on State Street in Geneva.

Six decades of serving God
At age 82, Sister June Does has been forced to cut back the hours she puts in at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Now, she's only supposed to be in her office 20 hours a week. It was on Sept. 8, 1950, that Does first entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart. The community and many friends she has made through those years are invited to celebrate her 60th jubilee today with a noon Mass, lunch after that and then a reception.
